Research & Advocacy: Undertaking evidence based researches on remedial educati
The today’s society is concerned much on producing “toppers” and evaluates success in terms of academic merits, employability and economic scale. The schools, which are often driven by results and merits in examinations, are not interested in keeping the so-called “slow child” in their classrooms. Continuous neglect and labelling of such children hinders their learning progress and results in worsening of the problem. Children with specific learning disability (SLD) and learning difficulties are often pushed out of schools due to academic underachievement. Our schools and teachers either put excessive pressure on those children without understanding their problems and exhibit lack of patience towards them. The children with Learning Difficulties and identified SLDs who are left unassisted by teachers with expertise in remediation will often get out of schools.
Therefore, FEATHERS works with the children with learning difficulties and SLDs who are requiring early diagnosis, early intervention and continuous management through special educators trained in handling different types of learning difficulties.
Community Based Early Intervention Programme of FEATHERS helps children diagnosed with developmental delays to improve their delayed milestones through physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and special education for improving their cognition, activity for daily living, adaptive skills, social and emotional Skills.
Children with special education needs require early diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention for their mental, emotional, physical or social needs. Guided by experts in the field of rehabilitation and special education, FEATHERS extends Professional Assistance and Motherly Care to Children with Intellectual Disability
Vaanavil is an Art Integrated Learning Approach promoted by FEATHERS, wherein the kids are facilitated to explore creatively at their individual pace both in visual (drawing and painting, clay modelling, pottery, paper crafts, mask and puppet making) and performing arts (music, dance, theatre, puppetry) to learn different concepts.
Children with learning disability may have difficulty in reading, writing, spelling, reasoning, recalling and/or organizing information. They are often pushed out of schools due to academic underachievement. Feathers works with the mainstream school education system to provide specialized care and attention to those children with appropriate remedial education and training at Primary Level.
FEATHERS offers various customised training programmes to teachers involved in remedial education on various aspects of remediation process including assessment, designing individualised educational programmes, preparing teaching-learning materials, classroom strategies, psycho-social care for the children and counselling their parents.
FEATHERS is committed to undertake evidence based researches on various educational intervention programmes designed and implemented by it at the grassroots, and sharing the experiences gained from such programmes at the national and international forums for effecting changes in the policies and programmes of the government favour of underprivileged children.
